Technical Assurance was engaged by Heapy Engineering to provide Full Enhanced BECx services to Five Rivers Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, with the goal of achieving LEED Gold Certifcation.
Technical Assurance provided periodic technical quality observation site visits to observe typical construction installations pertaining to the building enclosure. Site visits were focused on air/vapor barrier installations, roof system installations, and any other project specific systems pertaining to the building enclosure and related performance.
The BECx process entailed various testing procedures as follows:
- Perform and report on ASTM C1153 Roof Insulation Infrared Scanning.
- Perform and report on ASM C1060 Building Insulation Infrared Scanning.
- Perform and report on AAMA 501.2 Water Hose Testing.
- Perform and report on ASTM D4541 Coatings Adhesion Testing.
Fundamental BECx Services included:
- Design Phase — coordinate commissioning work, develop the design phase commissioning plan, perform focused reviews of the design at various stages of development.
- Bid Phase — attend pre-bid meeting to answer commissioning related questions.
- Construction Phase — review shop drawings and submittals for technical content and continuity of building enclosure systems, recommendations of findings and reporting. Technical Assurance also supported Heapy in the RFI and submittal phase for review of special conditions related to wall and interfacing systems.
