In 2018, Technical Assurance partnered with Heapy Engineering to perform Cx services on the Design Innovation Hub and Dining Rehabilitation project at Kent State University. Technical Assurance is specifically performing building enclosure commissioning (BECx) services for the project team. The renovation project goal is to create a space to house a state of the art, student-centered design hub with a dining facility that seats approx. 350. The building’s location is in the heart of the campus. The entire building is being stripped down to the original steel structure, a new building envelope is being installed and an entirely new interior and infrastructure will be installed/built.
Technical Assurance is providing the following BECx services:
- Pre-Design Phase services, which includes the review of programmatic requirements, reviewing factors that influence enclosure design, construction, durability, serviceability and performance, and assisting in the development of the OPR.
- Design and CD phase BECx services, which includes design review and specification development at the CD phase.
- Construction Phase – shop drawing and submittal review, and part-time construction observation during critical installations.
- Occupancy and Operations Phase services, which includes a 10-month post occupancy review of the building enclosure.
The minimum goal of the project is to achieve LEED Silver. The project completed in 2020.
